Classic ‘Old School’ Desk Rebuild – Episode Two

Recap: ORW needs a new Work-From-Home Desk. Not finding anything acceptable, the OR has decided to take a used desk and modify it. The perfect classic style desk has been obtained, and Now modification has begun.

I’m Planning to mount the computer monitors on the wall, so only 22 inches is desired. (I don’t want a 3 ft deep desk – that is just a space to collect junk.) So, after removing the top, 12 inches of desk surface was removed.

T\hen the Drawer slides removed, and the desk was cut in alternating spaces to remove the middle section,

Desk is now ‘Clam shell’ – too late to turn back now.

then the Desk was reassembled, the drawer slides cut down to fit, reinstalled and then the drawers were cut down and new backs added.

Desk reassembled. Drawer slides resized and replaced, drawers and pull outs cut down and backs replaced. Top set in place. Rather uninspiring at this point – it kind looks just like it did before all of the work. . . but it is now the right size!

Ready for the next step – sanding and finishing.
